Visited on 1st May 2015 (Fri). With plush sofas and an idyllic ambience, The Courtyard is a pampering experience for light meal, afternoon tea or chocolate buffet etc. In the evenings, The Courtyard has the perfect casual yet elegant ambience to sip on your favourite cocktail and unwind, of course not forgetting their famed chocolate buffet.

Chocolate Buffet only available on every Fri and Sat from 8 to 11pm on normal days

Price: $38++ per person

(With Free Flow of Regular Coffee and Tea of the Day + Live Violin Music)

I came here because of this can you believe? Lol... Cos without their soothing violin music in the background, this chocolate buffet will be very dull... They really add on to an enjoyable buffet experience for us! Kudos to the 2 violinist!

Chocolate Beverages Counter
There were 8 types of chocolate beverages to select from.

4 from the left: White Chocolate choices

4 from the right: Dark Chocolate choices

We chose 1 of the white choco and 1 of the dark choco. Conclusion: Dark choco tasted better!

The ice-cream here always melted very fast. Quite low-quality ice-cream...

Crepes with chocolate inside! it's nice but too bad it was always cold...

I was expecting this chocolate cake (Or we usually call this Lava Cake) to be good, but it tasted very ordinary, Most other restaurants served better lava cake than this. The chocolate taste of this cake was very mild, and there wasn't much fudge in the center.

Visited on 4 April 2015 (Sat) during Easter week.

Tea of the day was Jasmine Tea. Very light and nice!

Overall Impression: The service on our first visit on 4th April during Easter week was impeccable. (Probably it's not that crowded and different manager served us)

But the service on our last visit during 1st May was not so good. Plates were not cleared for a very long time (And if our table has 4 things to clear, they only clear 1 or 2 and left the remaining plates or empty shooter glass there, not sure if they cannot see properly?)

The chocolate buffet quality was between average to slightly above average. With the romantic ambience + soothing classical live violin music to go along with the buffet at $38++ per pax, this is definitely a steal!

Hai Tien Lo is the award-winning classic Cantonese restaurant with a contemporary twist. What i like about Hai Tien Lo is you can slowly take your time to enjoy the ala carte buffet from 11.30am to 2.30pm (3 hours long)

Waiting area at the reception

Reception counter

I love these row of seats as you can view the hotel atrium!

Beautiful lighted cages at the hotel atrium

Inner dining area at the back... (Nothing to see but good for quiet lunch)

They have a few private dining area

Complimentary Appetizer:
Cashew Nuts with Coconut Flakes
My first time having cashew nuts with coconut and they have certainly delighted my taste buds before we started the meal.

White Royal Peony (Delicate white tea with fruity apricot and flowery English rose)
I love the light and refreshing fragrance of flowery rose tea here! 2 persons at $12++!

Double-boiled Mini "Buddha Jumps Over The Wall" with Cordycep
The soup was robust with full flavour, very tasty!

Braised Whole Abalone with Bean Curd in Conpoy Sauce
The abalone was quite tender with very nice conpoy sauce!

Deep-Fried Sea Fish with Pine Mushrooms in Supreme Stock
Hmm.. Somehow I feel that this fish fillet tasted like our usual fish n chips outside. Not impressive at all...

Baked Crayfish with Lemon Butter Sauce
The meat was quite tough. I took a long time to pull the meat out. Not very used to lemon butter sauce. Somehow I feel that the little sour lemon butter sauce didn't complement that well with the crayfish...

Braised Fish Maw and Shredded Abalone in Thick Broth
As this is part of the buffet, so they did not provide us premium quality. The broth was a tad watery. But overall the taste was still fine..

Deep-fried Whitebait Fish with Pepper and Salt
This was a nice appetizer to start with!

Steamed Shrimp Dumplings with Coriander
I like the non-sticky crystal skin with very fresh and succulent shrimp, tasted very aromatic together with the coriander. A very great shrimp dumpling!

Poached Fresh Prawns

The prawns were really fresh with natural sweetness.. It was served together with the finger bowl and the soy sauce. I like to go hotel restaurants as they will provide you the finger bowl without asking. This is call good service!

Steamed Sea Perch with Preserved Vegetables and Fresh Bean Curd Sticks

Was a tad disappointed with the sea perch here as I do not like the whole combination and it was quite bland.

Stir-fried Carrot Cake with Sakura Shrimps in Chef’s Signature Homemade XO Chilli sauce
The carrot cake cubes were not that soft as what I've expected it to be. The homemade XO chilli sauce was not impressive neither, probably the chef did not put in much sauce to fry together?

Wok-fried Grouper Fish with Ginger and Spring Onion

This simple grouper fish turned out to be better than my expectation. It was tender with very aromatic taste!

Barbecued Roasted Duck

I love the aromatic crispy skin but the meat was quite tough so this did not impress me.

Deep-fried Bean Curd with Minced Pork, Prawns and Mushrooms

This was a nice fried dim sum!

Deep-fried Prawns with Salted Egg
The salted egg yolk was lackluster. Was quite disappointed in this dish...

Milk Pudding with Papaya
. I had quite a few of this. A very healthy dessert!

Double-boiled Pears with Osmanthus and White Fungus
I like this refreshing dessert!

Coconut Cake, Brownie and Cheesecake
Simply adored the coconut cake so much, the cake was soft with very aromatic coconut taste! The other two cakes were decent.

Honeydew, Grapes, Watermelon

After we settled the bill, they will put the receipts into this envelope. I like the way they present the receipts in an envelope. It shows the difference to dine at premium chinese restaurants and normal chinese restaurants. :)

Overall Impression: Out of the 14 dishes that I've ordered, 7 were great while 7 were a tad disappointing. So it's like half good half bad.

Service was quite good and polite but they always seemed to be short of manpower each time I'm there and halfway the meal, we waited for nearly 40 mins for the next dish to be served. (Not sure if it's the kitchen or the waitress screwed up our order which caused such a long delay)

Considering the relax and nice ambience with not bad food quality, I will still recommend this place.
